The Kirundi language (also referred to as the Rundi language) is a Bantu language of central Africa with an estimated 6 million speakers. It is spoken in Burundi
as well as bordering regions of Congo, Uganda and Tanzania. Of Kirundi speakers, roughly 84% are Hutu, 15% are Tutsi and 1% of Kirundi speakers are Twa. Kirundi is a close relative of the Kinyarwanda language which is spoken in the neighboring country Rwanda and of the Giha language spoken in Western Tanzania. The three languages are mutually intelligible.
