Waray-Waray (or Samarnon) is spoken by an estimated 3.1 million native speakers and 300,000 secondary speakers. It is one of the Philippines’ official languages and is found in the Eastern Visaya provinces and some parts of Masbate, including Samar, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte and Biliran. This Malay-Polynesian language is part of the Austronesian Family, and is close to other Visayan languages like Cebuano and Hiligayon. Philippine entertainment media often use Waray-Waray in broadcasts, though print media prefer English.
