Ibanag is a language spoken by about 320,000 inhabitants of the Philippines, and thus the 18th language of that archipelago country. It is spoken in the Isabela and Cagayan Province of Luzon and literally means “river language.” It is similar to Gaddang, Itawis, Agta, Atta, Yogad, Isneg and Malaweg, all of them tongues spoken in the region. Most speakers of Ibanag also use Ilocano, which is the lingua franca of the northern end of Luzon.
